BACKGROUND

Wyvern Underwriters was founded by a group of seasoned insurance professionals whose vision is to provide a technology-driven, no-nonsense, approach to underwriting.

Wyvern writes a comprehensive line of professional liability and general liability products for commercial organizations. Our primary classes of business include allied healthcare, social services, financial services, technology, and general commercial coverage Our products are focused on surplus lines insurance solutions for small and medium sized businesses. Additional coverage extensions are also offered for business property, employee benefits, employment practices, non-owned automobile, and others.

Wyvern differentiates itself by engaging with its agents and brokers to deliver tailored insurance solutions that are focused on customer-specific risk exposure.  Our unique approach to underwriting combines customer-specific and industry data analytics that deliver a quantified and understandable risk assessment for each client, resulting in an insurance portfolio that incentivizes customers to improve their risk profile over time.

Jeffrey M. Longbons

President

Jeff is the founding member of Wyvern Underwriters, LLC (“Wyvern”) where he serves as President. 

Jeff has extensive insurance experience founding, building, growing & leading MGAs, underwriting business units and entire insurance organizations.  Jeff is an experienced leader in the Property & Casualty insurance industry with entrepreneurial & “outside the box” approach to providing innovative products, service, and business delivery systems.

Previously, Jeff was the founding member of Promont Advisors, LLC, a P&C-based managing general agency and ProPoint Claim Services, LLC, a P&C-based Third-Party Claims Administrator.  In this role he was responsible for business development and management of all operations for both Promont & ProPoint, including all aspects of underwriting, policy form & endorsement development, underwriting guidelines & procedures, marketing, finance & business analytics, and claims.

Jeff has been instrumental in the start-up of several new insurance ventures throughout his career.  Prior to the formation of Promont Advisors, Jeff was a founding member of Apex Insurance Managers, LLC where he originally served as the Senior Vice President – Underwriting & Operations where he managed all underwriting, product development, business operations and marketing activities.  Jeff was ultimately installed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Apex in 2009 where he oversaw the successful sale of that company.

Prior to founding Apex Insurance Managers, Jeff was one of the founders of Monitor Liability Managers, LLC, a professional liability underwriting division within the W.R. Berkley Group, where he served for seven years as the Executive Vice President.  Monitor is a managing general agency that underwrites, administrates & handles claims for a book of professional liability business.  This business includes directors’ & officers’ liability, legal professional liability, employment practices liability and errors & omissions products. Jeff’s analytics-based focus is originally derived from his Accounting & Business education and his work as a Certified Public Accountant during his tenure in the audit services department of KPMG, one of the leading financial services companies and one of the Big Four accounting & tax services companies.

Lisa Donohue

Underwriting Manager – Non-Profit and Social Services

Lisa has over 23 years of experience in the insurance industry with the last 12 years underwriting management and professional liability lines in the Private and Non-Profit sector. Most recently, she worked with an admitted insurance carrier to develop new Directors & Officers, Crime and Umbrella policy forms, endorsements, and underwriting guidelines for a new Non-Profit program with an MGU. Prior to that, she underwrote new and renewal Not-for-Profit business for the Community Association Program.  She also managed and underwrote new and renewal business for the Property Managers Program.  Her experience includes supervising a Financial Services underwriting team, including monitoring and managing workflow and coordinating customer service efforts.

Lisa has experience working directly with retail brokers, wholesale brokers and MGUs. She has developed these relationships to facilitate consistently high levels of productivity and innovation. She was also responsible for managing a team of underwriters, developing new products for the client base, and educating underwriters on new products, ensuring coverage understanding and profitable underwriting practices.

Bradley Ignasiak

Underwriting Manager – Allied Healthcare

Bradley heads up the healthcare division at Wyvern Underwriters, LLC.  He has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry focused on healthcare professional liability. Most recently, Bradley developed an excess and surplus lines production underwriting department within a national medical malpractice insurance carrier at ProAssurance Group.  During this period, he developed rewrote the company’s excess and surplus lines form, led underwriter training and recorded producer presentations.  He then managed that division for large complex accounts and national program business on both an admitted and non-admitted basis with over $120M in premium.

Bradley also has experience working on the agency and brokerage side of the business. He has spent time consulting and developing internal training materials and presentations for production (sales and underwriting) staff in multiple product lines.  Beginning his career in the insurance industry at Medical Protective Insurance, he focused on hospital and miscellaneous healthcare facility business for another national carrier including captives, large excess, and alternative risk transfers.

Nicole Medina, JD

Senior Underwriter – Allied Healthcare

Nicole serves as a Senior Underwriter in Wyvern’s healthcare division along with Mr. Ignasiak.  Nicole has 15 years of experience as an underwriter in the professional liability insurance industry analyzing risk and eligibility and identifying pricing for client organizations.

Prior to joining Wyvern, Nicole was a Vice President and Senior Allied Health Underwriter for JaVA Underwriting, LLC, a specialty healthcare managing general agency focused on healthcare based micro-cap organizations.  In this role, Nicole underwrite and controlled diversified book of allied healthcare business.  Prior to that she served as a Program Leader and Underwriter for Brown & Brown Protector Plan focusing on a book of allied health and dental accounts.

Nicole holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Florida International University College of Law along with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.  Nicole also served as an Administrative Judge in the Florida appellate court system where she presided over unemployment compensation appeals hearings.

Nicole is based in the Nashville, Tennessee area.

Mark Fintel

Mark has been involved in Healthcare Professional Liability, in the brokerage, underwriting, underwriting management disciplines, for over twenty-five years. During that time, he has had the privilege to touch most portions of Medical Malpractice and Allied Healthcare business including traditional allied health programs, miscellaneous medical facilities, hospitals, senior care facilities, life science risks, and distressed physician business.

Throughout his career, Mark has engaged in both individual deal-making and line of business management.  He has had the opportunity to engage with brokers, actuaries, insurance department personnel, compliance professional, claims experts and coverage counsel to understand the diverse issues impacting the U.S. healthcare system, with an especial emphasis on liability in all aspects of general and professional liability.

Mark’s experience has spanned across organizations that include AIG (Lexington), Allianz (Fireman’s Fund/Interstate) and Willis Towers Watson.  This experience has included roles with responsibility for forms development, rate analysis and setting, competition and market assessments, program and profitability management, distribution expansion and management, regulatory filing and approval, account underwriting, and broker relationships.

In 2022 he founded ProAlly, that is dedicated to providing expanded choices for Allied Health professionals in a wide array of non-doctoral medical professions.
